AC30

This particular AC30 is a 90’s Korg Era AC30/6TB with an original “6402” stamped G12M Celestion Greenback (the holy grail of greenbacks) and a new Fane Ascension F25 speaker. This amp has been heavily modded by Don “Toneman” Butler, a Los Angeles area legend. Don equipped this amp with a Mercury Magnetics Axiom transformer and choke, replaced all the signal path components, changed the filtering to JMI specs, upgraded various components and more. This amp is the tone I’ve been chasing in my head for years and the TONEX has finally given me a way to capture it in a pedalboard friendly package!

MICS & PREAMP

I made a custom head cabinet for the amp portion of this all original 90’s 2X12 combo amp so that I could effectively place the cab in another room while capturing for the purest and easiest way to dial in tone. The 2X12 Vox combo cab is all original and holds the original 90’s Celestion G12M Greenback speakers that have the “6402” stamp—some of the most coveted greenbacks out there. I also used a Fane F25 speaker for the single coil captures (WRM) for a bit of variety.

For these captures I used a single Shure 545 placed traditionally in between the center and the edge of the speaker.

CAPTURES

Captured with the new TONEX V2 Modeler set to “Extended Training” for the highest quality possible. All V2 captures, no matter the manufacturer, are perfectly in phase (polarity) with each other and have the same amount of latency. I also made sure all of my V1 captures are in polarity with the new V2 captures so you can mix and match if you wish. See this video for details.

Primarily voiced for humbuckers but your mileage may vary! So don’t hold back on throwing your single coils into these captures.
There’s something about these two simple captures, the “1” in particular, that feels just right. These were my first two captures ever made and might still be in my top 5 favorite captures.

FAVS
You’ll see a folder called “FAVS” which is where I will include my favorite captures from each pack. These are carefully dialed in to pair well with all the other FAVS and also represent my favorite captures of each pack. When importing these, please use the “Preset” NOT the “Tone Model”. When importing a “Preset” in your TONEX, it imports my preferred EQ/Gain/Volume settings which is very important if you plan on pairing this with other FAVS from other amp packs. The “Tone Model” is the base capture with no EQ tweaks and will not match perfectly with the others. See my HB FAVS VOL 1 video.

  - This takes my original capture and just adds some EQ to take away some lows and mids. There’s a similar preset for the PROSON that this pairs well with.
  - Only available for ToneX as it’s not a unique capture, but simply a preset with EQ applied. You can apply the same kind of EQ in the QC if you’d like. Simply lower the Bass to -3 or -4 and the Mids to -1 or -2.
