DR80 - TX

$24.99

The Dr. Z Z-80 is Mike's "legacy" amp and is the result of 6 years of fine tuning and perfecting the coveted and uber-rare Vox AC80 circuit. The Doc and Brad Paisley worked together on getting this amp to sound just like the original while also ensuring it was road ready. The Z-80 isn’t just a higher powered version of a vintage AC30, however, rather it stands on its own sonic territory, offering a more focused low end, tighter breakup, and crystal clear highs. This amp sounds great with single coils and humbuckers. To top is off, this particular amp head was built and signed by the Doctor himself. Prepare for chime city!

66 Captures with Four Different Speakers

Head Captures & IRs Included

6 Captures for Humbuckers (brighter) and 6 for Single Coils (warmer) are included for each speaker

GLD - Celestion Alnico Gold 50W

These are the speakers that come in the 2X12 cab Dr. Z sells with the Z-80. So needless to say, the paring is an intentional marriage that carries this amp’s tone to where it was meant to go. The Gold is designed to sound like a well broken in Blue with rounder highs and a softer attack. These are my favorite captures for humbuckers.

  • Zilla Studio Pro 2X12 Cab

  • Shure 545 USA microphone

SC75 - Scumback “Scumnico” 30W

This speaker, referred to as the “Scumnico”, is a close replica of a vintage Vox Silver Bell famously found in early Vox AC30 amps. I found it to be a near perfect pairing with the Z80. The highs aren’t harsh but still retains the chime you’d expect from this type of speaker. It also has a ton of body and midrange goodness. Try this speaker first!

  • Bad Cat Era 30 2X12 Oversized Cab

  • Shure 545 USA microphone

GB - Greenback

This 90’s greenback is one of my all time favorite ceramic speakers and has sounded great on every amp I’ve tried it with. It’s very well balanced but had a midrange grind and focus that’s perfect for most situations.

  • 90’s Celestion G12M Greenback Speaker (“6402” stamped)

  • Vox AC30/6TB combo cab

  • Shure 545 USA microphone

M75 - Scumback M75-PVC 65W

Although the M75 has vintage greenback DNA, I find this speaker to be a bit different than my 90’s G12M. It’s more present in the high-mids and cuts more. Choose this speaker if you want a slightly more aggressive version of the GB.

  • Scumback M75-PVC 65W speaker

  • Vox AC30/6TB combo cab

  • Shure 545 USA microphone
