Frequently Asked Questions
Are all your ToneX captures in polarity (phase)?
Yes! I make absolutely sure that all my ToneX captures are in polarity with each other so you don’t have to use a polarity reverse device or reverse the polarity on your FOH console live or when recording. On the Quad Cortex, however, there are random times when one capture will be reversed polarity, even though the majority of the other captures are correct. This may be a glitch in the capture process but it’s easy enough to turn the phase switch on/off in the merge block to correct it.
What Input Trim Do You Use on ToneX?
+8.5db | AC30, Prosonic, Clubman, Tone Cat
+0db | Prosonic “Warm”, DR80, Revenue, Chimera, and all newer V2 captures
If you’d like to use the first set of amps but with your Input Trim set at 0db, simply increase the Gain on the AC30, Prosonic, Clubman, Tone Cat to around 8.2.
What are your recommended pairings for your amp captures?
For ToneX, I’ve made a dedicated capture pack featuring my favorite captures from each pack and have ensured they all pair extremely well with each other. Even if you don’t use ToneX, I’d encourage you to visit this page to get how my different amps sound together. But, in short, you can pair all my amps with all the others. Feel free to tweak the Gain and EQ on the captures to help them blend better with each other.
For ToneX, can V1 and V2 captures pair well together?
Yes!
While there is more latency discrepancy if you pair V1 and V2 together, in many cases it simply adds a “widening” effect that can be desirable. My only caveat would be that if you need to sum to mono, I would not recommend pairing a V1 and V2 Preset together.

What capture should I use for my guitar pickup?
Many of my captures and presets will be designated as voiced for “Humbuckers” (H) or “Single Coils” (SC). But all this really means is that the Humbucker voiced captures are a little brighter than the Single Coil versions.
It’s also important to know that I dial in my Humbucker captures with a Jennings Voyager with Lambertones Crema (neck) and Grinder (bridge) pickups. These pickups are humbuckers but are brighter and more single-coil-like in nature so don’t hesitate to try your Strat or Tele with my “Humbucker” captures. It just may work for you with a small amount of tweaking!
I dial in my Single Coil captures with a Jazzmaster style guitar with Lambertones Ristretto P90’s. I find that using Ristrettos sets the captures up to work well with most Strats and Teles.
Do I need a Line Isolator or can I just use a DI box?
While I make sure all my amps are in polarity/phase with each other and therefore do not require devices than can reverse polarity on one channel, I do highly recommend upgrading to a Line Isolator instead of a Direct Box when running ToneX pedals. See this video for a demonstration why it matters. But, in essence, the L.I. will give your signal a lot more output and require less gain from your FOH console or recording interface, preserving the quality of your tone.
Do you run sales?
Instead of offering periodic sales, I price my products reasonably and provide lifetime updates which adds more value over time. My philosophy is to release less amp captures and presets but continue to improve them over time. For example, I’ve recently invested in other high end microphones, analog preamps and EQs and will re-capture my amps with these tools and give them to previous owners for free. Make sure you create an account when you checkout so that you can come back and re-download your updated purchases at any time! I also offer bundles for many different captures and presets which saves money. Lastly, I’ve made my Chimera resources absolutely free!

When is your next amp/preset release going to be?
Right now, I’m a one-man operation and I don’t set firm release dates on anything. But before I release a product, I make sure it’s well tested live and in the studio before it gets in anyones hands. I make my captures and presets very carefully and often slower than many others. I’m of the philosophy that I’d rather choose quality over quantity.
Lord willing, my goal for 2026 includes the following releases:

What’s your approach to tone in general?
This is a complicated answer and one that I have plans on making a series of content for. Stay tuned for a “How To Dial in Tone” series!
