Sabbath Fridays

Hey everyone, I just wanted to pop on here and first of all thank you for your overwhelming support the last 18 months. I’ve been blown away by your kindness, support, and encouragement—not only for my captures and presets, but for my family and the spiritual development I am seeking to foster though this platform.

Juggling both “heart” (spiritual formation) and “craft” (tone) on social media has proven to be sticky. The gear and tone world is easier and more “likable” while the heart stuff is time consuming and does little to grow the channel wider. But as I’ve always stated, this channel exists to combat that very tension. So I care very little about the lack of followers the “heart” stuff gains me. I’d rather grow deep with the few of you than stay shallow with the masses. So don’t worry, the spiritual stuff ain’t budging!

But confession time—as my platform has grown over the last year, managing my own phone addiction has been real. I’ll blame Neural DSP for making us do manual preset transfers which keeps me constantly checking my phone for orders so that I can get them in your hands as quick as possible. Customer service is a big deal to me and I feel you should never have to wait more than 24 hours for a preset you purchased.

To get to the point, I simply need to create some boundaries in my life in regards to social media and Tone Shepherding. I’m still committed to excellent customer service but moving forward I will be “closed” on Fridays and take a Sabbath with my family.

On Fridays I won’t post or look at DMs, I won’t transfer presets or look at emails. For 24 hours I will reset, recharge, disconnect, remind myself I’m not in control, rest in the reality that the world is perfectly fine without my contribution, cook slowly, spend meaningful time with my kids, have a glass of good wine, and most importantly, delight in the Lord.

I’m certain you understand and I appreciate your support in advance! In fact, I’ll extend the challenge to you as well—find a day to turn everything off. Don’t buy anything, scroll, or “work” for 12-24 hours on a weekly basis. We all need it no matter what field we’re in.

More on this later.

Much love to the Tone Flock!

See you Saturday!
